I K L MIID Card: See student ID card. incompatible unit: a unit is incompatible if it is substantially similar in content to a another unit. A student may not be permitted to enrol in a unit if they have previously passed an incompatible unit. indexation: annual financial adjustments made to Commonwealth contributions, maximum student contributions, HELP debts and repayment thresholds to maintain their real value. integrated award/degree: see combined award. interfaculty degree: a single or double degree that is based upon core components from two or more faculties at QUT. international student: a student who is neither a citizen nor permanent resident of Australia nor a citizen of New Zealand by the commencement date of the course for which they have been offered admission. KKG: see Kelvin Grove campus. Kelvin Grove campus (KG): located north of Brisbane. Study areas offered on this campus are: Education, Health, Creative Industries, Justice Studies, and QUT International College. Lleave of absence: requested by students who find that their circumstances necessitate a period of absence from their course. Normally leave of absence will not be granted in the first semester of the first year of study except where the absence is necessitated by medical, compassionate or other exceptional circumstances as determined by the Registrar. lecture: a class in which an academic staff member gives formal instruction in the subject matter for students enrolled in that unit. lecturer: see academic staff. lifelong SLE: see Student Learning Entitlement. location code: indicates the home campus of a student's course for the purpose of enrolment. However, this may not mean that all units will be held on this campus. Location codes are:
Mmajor/double major: a collection of units that make up a specific area of expertise. Most courses will require students to complete one or two majors. The requirements of a major, including the number of units it contains, will vary from course to course. Additional units studied in the area of a major may enable a student to obtain an extended major or a double major. The second major undertaken in a course may be called a c o-major and may involve different rules from the first major. Manual of Policies and Procedures (MOPP): repository of QUT statutes and rules, legislative and statutory provisions, and university-wide policies and procedures. masters by coursework: postgraduate program requiring completion of at least 2 or 3 semesters of equivalent full-time study. Programs consist of a series of specialist courses and sometimes a research component. Students can enter most programs with a relevant bachelor degree and work experience in a related discipline or on completion of a related graduate diploma or graduate certificate. masters by research: see research higher degree. mature-age entry: see alternative entry. minor: a collection of units designed to provide students with an area of knowledge and skills that contribute to, or complement, a major. Units may be drawn from a number of different discipline areas. Minors require completion of fewer credit points than majors. mode: see attendance mode. module: a specific and discrete learning segment that leads to the achievement of stated learning objectives.
