Withdrawing from units |

Units can be withdrawn online at any point in time. You may cancel your enrolment in units except where the cancellation results in an enrolment program that has fewer credit points than the minimum allowable, or represents a departure from a program prescribed for a student on probation. The following policy relates to the academic implications of withdrawing from units. You need to refer to the last date for unit withdrawals to avoid academic penalties. Refund of fees paidYou should refer to the late cancellation charges for the financial implications of making changes to units after certain dates. Domestic studentsRequest for re-credit of Student Learning Entitlement (SLE), remission of HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP, or a refund of any student contribution amount payments or tuition fees must be made on an Application to Re-credit SLE, Remit or Refund Help Debt and Tuition Fees (Domestic Students Only) in Special Circumstances (RC) Form, with appropriate supporting documentation and submitted to Student Business Services. International studentsRequest for tuition fee refunds must be made on an International Refund (IR) Form, with appropriate supporting documentation and submitted to Student Business Services. Recorded resultsFor units undertaken in all teaching periods, the following results are recorded:
With the exception of: Units undertaken in the intensive study mode and offshore programs, with associated enrolment recorded in either First or Second Semester teaching period where there may be differing, and sometimes unique, commencement dates. Students should refer to the advertised commencement date of the units. For units undertaken in these categories, the following will apply:
The Registrar, on advice from the faculty, may waive the 'fail' result arising from late cancellation when satisfied that the cancellation was necessitated by special circumstances (medical, compassionate or other circumstances). To apply for withdrawal without academic penalty on the basis of special circumstances you may either apply in writing or lodge an Application to Re-credit SLE, Remit or Refund HELP Debt and Tuition Fees (Domestic Students Only) in Special Circumstances (RC Form). Documentary evidence, such as originals or certified copies of medical certificates or statements from employers, must be submitted in support of your application. Time limits for applying for withdrawal without academic penaltyYour application must reach Student Business Services within 12 months from the last day of the teaching period in which you were enrolled in the unit(s). These arrangements apply to all teaching periods at QUT. QUT may consider applications made beyond 12 months if you can provide proof that there were special circumstances which prevented you from applying until the date of your application. Policy |
