Am I a 2009 student?

You are a 2009 student if you commenced your course on or after 1 January 2009.

Note: A student transferring from a non-Natural and Physical Sciences course into a Natural and Physical Sciences course in 2009 may also be eligible as a pre-2008 student.

Am I a pre-2009 student?

You are a pre-2009 student if you commenced your course of study in a Commonwealth Supported Place before 1 January 2009 and are not covered by the course transfer arrangements.

Course transfer arrangements:

If you commenced a course of study that is not a natural and physical science course of study before 1 January 2009 and transfer to a natural and physical science course of study you will be a 2009 student.

You can calculate the cost of your units as a pre-2009 student using the calculation table.

Am I a pre-2008 student?

You are a pre-2008 student if you:

  • started your course of study in a Commonwealth supported place between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2007; and
  • have not completed your course at 31 December 2007; and
  • are studying a unit in the accounting, administration, economics or commerce funding cluster (see Table A). Eligible students will be charged the lower (pre-2008) maximum student contribution amount when undertaking units in this funding cluster. These arrangements will remain in place until 31 December 2012.

You will still be considered a pre-2008 student if, from 2008, you:

  • meet the requirements stated above, and you transfer from one course of study to another (including where one course of study is postgraduate and the other is undergraduate); or
  • transfer between Higher Education providers; or
  • discontinue your studies in 2008, and subsequently enrol in a Commonwealth
supported place in 2009 (or any year up to 2012); or
  • complete a course of study by 31 December 2007 that was an enabling course; or
  • complete a related course for an honours course of study by 31 December 2007 and then undertake the honours course.

You can calculate the cost of your units as a pre-2008 student using the calculation table.

Note: A pre-2008 student may also be eligible as a pre-2009 student if they commence a Natural and Physical Sciences course in 2009.

Where to now?

Once you have determined the above you may be eligible for the transitional arrangements. There must be sufficient evidence to determine your eligibility for pre-2008 or 2009 transitional arrangements.

All continuing and prospective students should read the Information for Commonwealth supported students booklet. Fee-paying students should read the Fee-Help Information booklet. These booklets are available at the goingtouni web site or from Student Centres on QUT campuses.

QUT will use available information to make an initial assessment of whether students are eligible students for pre- provisions. Should you not be satisfied with this initial assessment you should complete the appropriate application form (see below). Please ensure you read all relevant information, including the definition of an eligible student, before completing and submitting the application form.
