Eligible student : means
For pre-2008 student provisions:
- a student who started their course of study in a Commonwealth supported place between 1 January 2005 and 31
December 2007; and
- has not completed the course at 31 December 2007; and
- is not a pre-2005 HECS student in 2008; and
- are studying a unit in the accounting, administration, economics or commerce funding cluster (see Table A). Eligible students will be charged the lower (pre-2008) maximum student contribution amount when undertaking units in this funding cluster.
For pre-2005 student provisions:
- a student who commenced an undergraduate HECS liable course prior to 1 January 2005 and who, from 2005 onwards, is continuing with the same course or another course at the same level and who has not discontinued the course or completed the requirements of the course, or
- a student was enrolled as a HECS liable student and incurred a HECS debt immediately prior to being granted leave of absence in 2004, or
- a student who has completed an enabling course as an exempt student and who is commencing the course of study to which the enabling course relates as a Commonwealth supported student, (QUT does not offer enabling courses) or
- a student who has been admitted to an honours course after having completed the related pass course, provided the related pass course was commenced no earlier than 1997
- a student in a postgraduate fee paying coursework course who incurred a PELS debt on or before 31 December 2004 for that course and who is continuing in the same course or another course at the same level on or after 1 January 2005 .
Discontinued: means a student who has voluntarily withdrawn from the course or who has allowed their enrolment to lapse without re-enrolling for future periods, or whose enrolment has been terminated for academic, disciplinary or administrative reasons including non payment of fees and non compliance with regulatory requirements.
HECS: Higher Education Contribution Scheme
Higher Education Provider (HEP): as specified in the Higher Education Support (Transitional provisions and Consequential Amendments) Act 2003.
PELS: Postgraduate Education Loans Scheme
Postgraduate course: includes graduate certificates, graduate diploma, masters and coursework doctoral courses.
QUT: Queensland University of Technology
Undergraduate course: includes diploma, advanced diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s pass and honours.
