What happens if you:

Don't submit a request for Commonwealth assistance form by the census date

If you are in a Commonwealth Supported place, your enrolment program will be deleted (ie dis-enrolled). This means you will not be able to continue studying in the current semester as a Commonwealth Supported student. You must submit your Request for Commonwealth assistance form even if you choose to pay up-front.

If you are in a tuition fee paying place and eligible to request FEE-HELP for your course and have not submitted your form, you will be required to pay your fees to QUT. Please note that there are penalties for late payment.

Withdraw from units after the relevant date

If you are a domestic fee paying student (including DFee), you will incur a financial liability ie you will have to pay 100% of the tuition cost of the unit if you withdraw after the census date. If you are a Commonwealth supported student, you will incur a financial liability of 100% of your student contribution for the unit if you withdraw after the census date.

International students should refer to Table J: International Tuition Cancellation Charges.

Don't receive a Statement of Account for the teaching period

You still have to pay. Due dates for Statements of Account are published in advance.

Don't pay fees by the due date on the Statement of Account

Domestic and International tuition fee paying students (including domestic DFee students) who do not pay by the due date, will incur a late/non-payment fee of $50.00. You must pay this late fee with any outstanding amounts by the census date. Failure to pay all fees due by the census date will result in a sanction being applied to your student account. This means your access to all University services, including the Library, will be withdrawn.

If a late payment fee has been applied to your account before you apply for FEE-HELP (domestic fee paying students only), you will still be liable for this late fee. You will be required to pay this fee yourself. Late fees cannot be deferred to FEE-HELP.

Ignore the sanction (suspend)

You will not be able to re-enrol in any future teaching periods or receive any results for work done during the period.

From 2007, if you are a domestic fee paying student (including DFee) and you owe $1,000 or more after the census date, your enrolment in the current teaching period will be discontinued and a sanction will be placed on your student account. For information on late cancellation charges see Table I: Domestic Tuition Cancellation Charges.

If you are an international student and you owe $1,000 or more after the census date, your enrolment in the current teaching period will be discontinued and you will be fully liable for all fees. For more information on the implications of late withdrawal from your course see Table J: International Tuition Cancellation Charges.

Discontinued students may apply to be reinstated upon payment of the $100 reinstatement fee and all outstanding debts (ie tuition fees calculated as at the census date) .

Commonwealth Supported students who are discontinued for non-payment of the student contribution amount will not be able to continue in their course on a Commonwealth supported basis for the teaching period.

Domestic students who were eligible for pre 2005 transitional arrangements and who are discontinued for non payment of fees will lose their eligibility and will be readmitted under the Higher Education Support Act (HESA) 2003 guidelines and QUT’s readmission rules.

The visa of international students who are not reinstated will be cancelled and they will be reported to DIAC.

Don't pay your student contribution by the due date (if your option is to pay up-front)

If you have chosen the up-front payment option on your request for Commonwealth assistance form and you have not paid by the due date, then if you have provided your Tax File Number as a safety net, you will automatically receive assistance through HECS-HELP. If you do not pay your student contribution by the due date and have not provided a Tax File Number as a safety net, your enrolment will be cancelled.
