The application process varies depending on which faculty owns the unit you are enrolled in. Please refer to the options below for the relevant application process.

Please note: If you are completing a double degree program, or where units in more than one faculty are included, you must approach the relevant faculty for adjustments in the units offered by it.

NESB procedures for units of Business, Built Environment & Engineering, Information Technology or Science

You are permitted the use of an unmarked bilingual dictionary (book form only) if you are enrolled in units run by the Faculty of Business, Built Environment and Engineering, Information Technology, or Science.

For the Faculties of Business, Built Environment and Engineering and Information Technology - No extra time is usually granted.

For the Faculty of Science - any NESB student who is in the first calendar year of tertiary studies conducted in English language instruction may apply for extra time in examinations for units offered by the Faculty of Science. This extra time will be 5 minutes for every full 30-minute period of working time. Eligible students from NESB who wish to apply for extra time in examinations must complete the
Faculty application form.

NESB procedures for units run by all other faculties

If you are enrolled in units run by all other faculties (as per below), you should contact your school/faculty office for advice on how to apply or follow the directions contained in the links below.

In most cases:

  1. You obtain a faculty application form. The faculty form seeks details on all factors to be considered by the course coordinator when assessing your need to be provided with reasonable adjustments in examination(s).
  2. The completed form and any accompanying documentation is lodged with the faculty by the end of Week 9. (Please note that some cut off dates are as early as Week 8 of Semester.)
  3. The faculty decision, identifying assistance you are entitled to (extra time, bilingual dictionary), is lodged with the Examinations Office by the end of Week 11.
  4. The Examinations Office makes appropriate arrangements.
Please note: The Examinations Office will not notify you in writing of your room allocation details. If a your application for the use of a bilingual dictionary and/or extra time has been approved by the relevant School/Faculty, you MUST attempt your examination in the room allocated to you on QUT Virtual. You will not be granted special provisions if you attend a different room.
