Deferring exams |
If you, through special circumstances beyond your control, are unable to attend an examination at the prescribed time you may apply to sit for a deferred examination. A deferred examination is regarded as a significant concession to a student and, as such, will only be granted if you make a properly documented and timely case. You should not expect to be granted an unlimited number of deferred examinations over the course of your studies. Normally, deferred examinations are not granted if you misread the examination timetable. Requests for deferral of an approved deferred examination will not normally be granted. In circumstances where a student is unable to attend an approved deferred examination, it is expected that the student will make a case for withdrawal from the unit without academic penalty (see Student Rule 11(2)). Application for deferred examination formsApplications for deferred examinations should normally be submitted on the form below, prior to or within three days of the examination date. If you are in your final semester of study, a deferred exam may delay your graduation date. Please keep this in mind when applying for a deferred exam. Documentation required for medical groundsCertificate from a registered medical or dental practitioner on surgery letterhead or medical certificate on reverse side of deferred examination application form. The certificate (or letter) should state:
If medical certificates or letters do not comply with the above requirements, students will be contacted and required to obtain a new certificate or letter before the application can be processed. Documentation for reasons other than medical groundsSupporting documentation is essential. In the absence of documentary evidence, a Statutory Declaration must be attached with full details of the exceptional circumstances which prevented or will prevent you from sitting the examination.
