[Print-friendly version]

QUT has diverse research strengths and a record of success in problem-solving research for industry and the community.

Unlike the traditional university model in which research is specific to disciplines, QUT has established four major multidisciplinary research institutes:

  • The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation
    • Pioneering research in DNA-based diagnostics and medical devices; injury prevention and rehabilitation; molecular farming; health development and disease prevention; tissue bio-regeneration to aid burns victims; vision improvement and plant biotechnology will be conducted.
    • The new $60 million facility will allow over 400 researchers and staff from engineering, science and health to collaborate.
  • The Information Security Institute
    • The Information Security Institute builds real information security solutions for government, business and the community through research in technology, legal, policy and government issues.
  • The Institute for Sustainable Resources
    • This institute will provide sustainable growth and renewable resource solutions to problems in the changing environments of Queensland and other tropical and sub-tropical communities.
    • Research is based around sustainable buildings and built environments; natural resource management; industry ecology; cultural and social landscapes; urban form and structure and resource use, reuse and conservation.
  • The Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation
    • The Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation builds on QUT's leading research in these industries by focusing on research, innovation and commercialisation of design, production, performance and writing disciplines.
    • It will be located at the $60 million Creative Industries Precinct.

If you have a passion for discovery, seeing things in a new way or love the challenge of solving important problems then you should consider pursuing an honours pathway in your undergraduate degree.

A QUT research degree can lead to an exciting variety of career options and give you enhanced earning power. You may decide to go on to do a masters, professional doctorate by research or PhD.
