  Making the decision

[Print-friendly version]

Nearly 5000 international students from 100 countries choose to study at QUT. Being such a popular destination makes attending QUT a strong multicultural learning experience.

QUT promotes and celebrates cultural diversity on campus with events such as Harmony Day, Multicultural Fiesta, Diversity Week and a buddy scheme that provides academic and social support for international students.

The Language Exchange Program can help you learn a foreign language from a native speaker.

QUT offers a Student Exchange Program with partner institutions in 26 countries. An exchange offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study in another country, learn about different cultures, develop international networks and enhance career opportunities.

QUT courses often include opportunities to work with international companies and to travel overseas for study-related projects. Examples include:

  • Aerospace avionics students have visited European universities and aerospace companies to form important international links.
  • Built environment and engineering students can undertake an annual study tour which may be credited towards their degree - students have visited France, Spain, Germany, Italy and Africa.
  • Dance students have toured and collaborated with performers in Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines, Korea, Hong Kong and South Africa.
  • Education students can undertake their field experience in South-East Asia, the UK, Canada or the USA.
  • Humanities program students can undertake fieldwork on a Pacific Island as part of an elective.
  • International business students can visit countries such as China or India as part of an annual study tour which can be credited towards their degree.
  • Journalism students cover international events and issues in their annual reporting trips - recent groups have travelled to Europe, Indonesia , Malaysia and Singapore.
  • Language students can spend at least one semester overseas for 'in-country' study.
  • Law students successfully compete in international law moots (mock trials) against university students from around the world.

real experiences

Sarah Pontieu

QUT's large international student population has provided a strong multicultural learning experience – I've worked in project groups with students from Korea, Norway, the USA and France, just to name a few. It really helps put study and work into a global context.
