Why QUT?

Background

QUT has made a commitment to allow current undergraduate students located at the Carseldine campus to complete their courses either at Gardens Point or Kelvin Grove.

There are number of options outlined below that you may wish to consider.

Arts and Social Science students

For 2008 a suite of units will be offered to Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science students. These units will go towards the total number of credit points you need to complete your course and graduate. You will graduate with the award title of your degree as it stands now.

The university is taking steps to provide a greater level of flexibility in unit choice.  However, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science students should be aware that standard university practice requires that unit availabilities will be subject to review should proposed enrolment numbers fall below the standard minimum numbers indicated in university policy.

If you are continuing your course in 2009, your campus location will be changed to Kelvin Grove.

Further information about options for continuing Arts and Social Science students.

Human Services and Psychology students

Implications of changes

  • Your campus location will be changed to Kelvin Grove from Semester 1, 2009.
  • Students will continue and complete their current course.
  • At least until end of 2008 the courses will be conducted at Carseldine campus.
  • Graduate with your degree from Faculty of Health.

Business students

Business students will commence relocating to either the Gardens Point campus or Caboolture campus from Semester 2, 2008. Business students have been advised by email from the Faculty of Business. Current Business students who require further information should visit the Faculty of Business website.

Science students

Science students will be transferring to the Gardens Point Campus from Semester 2, 2008.

Changing courses

If you are considering a transfer to another course at QUT for Semester 2, 2008, Summer 2008/9* or Semester 1, 2009 QUT will allow you to apply directly to QUT through an internal course transfer process. See the 'Course transfer online form' below.

You will not have to apply to QTAC to transfer to QUT courses outside your faculty.

This concessional arrangement is available to current undergraduate students located at Carseldine Campus including students on approved leave of absence. Please note that course transfers will be subject to meeting the standard transfer admission requirements and mid-year availability for the course of application.

* note: units offered during Summer 2008/2009 are normally charged a tuition fee. For further information visit Summer program.

Leave of absence

Business, Science, Human Services, Psychology and Social Work courses

Students who request leave of absence (LOA) will have their leave of absence considered as per standard QUT policy.

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Science, and associated double degrees

Students who request leave of absence (LOA) for any period not extending beyond 2008 where:

  • the student is applying for leave of absence for a period of no more than one year; and
  • the student has completed at least one teaching period of enrolment in the course; and
  • the leave period requested, when combined with earlier periods of leave in the same course, does not exceed one year

will have their leave of absence considered as per standard QUT policy. The university will make every reasonable effort to ensure a course of study can be completed upon a return to study, understanding that unit availabilities for 2009 and beyond have yet to be determined.

LOA requests from Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Science, and associated double degrees for periods covering 2009 and beyond will be referred to the Head, Humanities Program for advice. The LOA request will be approved by the Registrar only where the Head, Humanities Program advises that the student, on return from leave, could reasonably expect to complete their course with expected unit availabilities.

Students who have interrupted their studies and wish to return to their course, but have not been on leave of absence, are subject to standard readmission rules. They are required to satisfy the course requirements which apply at the time of readmission which may include changes in course content and structure while they have been away.

If the course is no longer available the student may be offered an alternative course. The university will make every effort to assist returning students to devise an enrolment program from the units available at the time of their return. For some students, it may be difficult to identify appropriate QUT units to enable them to complete their award, where the course is being discontinued.
