Teaching areas information

Senior years

Teaching areas and their entry requirements are listed at Courses by faculty (see Teaching Area Entry Requirements under Course structures).

Students will undertake one teaching area based on the discipline studies undertaken in their undergraduate degree.

You must have successfully completed the equivalent of one year of full-time study at bachelor's level (or higher) in your nominated teaching area as part of, or in addition to, the completed undergraduate course required for entry into the course.

Please note that the requirements for some areas are quite specific and some teaching areas are not available for mid-year entry. Some teaching areas also have quota restrictions and may require an interview for admission purposes.

Middle years

The Middle Years area provides professional preparation for teaching in middle years school settings (Years 4 to 9).  Based on your previous studies you are required to nominate two discipline strengths from the areas listed on the teaching area nomination form.

Blue Card

If you are accepted into this course you will need a blue card which allows you to work with children and young people under 18 years of age. You are strongly encouraged to apply for a blue card as soon as possible.
