Why QUT?

[Print-friendly version]

The QUT Q-Step program aims to overcome barriers to full participation in higher education for prospective students from low socio-economic backgrounds through targeted activities in the areas of tertiary awareness-raising, recruitment, special entry and support for transition to university.

The Q-Step Office is located in F Block at the Kelvin Grove campus — home to the following Q-Step Program Staff:

  • Joy Pfeiffer
    Q-STEP Administrative Officer
    Email: qstep@qut.edu.au
    Phone: 3138 8766

Joy plays an integral role in the Q-Step team as the initial point of contact for all enquiries regarding the Q-Step Program. This includes information about Q-Step entry as well as school and campus visits.

  • Tamara Playne
    Q-STEP Liaison Officer (Schools)
    Email: qstep@qut.edu.au
    Phone: 3138 9699

Tamara’s primary role is to visit secondary schools providing information to potential Q-Step students and attending various QUT course promotion and recruitment events. In addition visits can also be arranged to private educational providers, TAFEs and community groups.

  • Brenda Kelley
    Q-STEP Liaison Officer (Events)
    Email: qstep@qut.edu.au
    Phone: 3138 9675

The Q-Step liaison officer has a primary focus of producing successful tertiary awareness raising on campus events such as Q-Step Orientation day; Q-STEP Year 10 conferences; Q-STEP Year 11 Skills and Development day; Q-STEP Year 12 Faculty Information Days. These events aim to create aspiration to prospective students from low income backgrounds and broaden their career options.
