Why QUT?

[Print-friendly version]

You should ideally allow a minimum of 2–3 weeks for your application to be processed.

It may take longer for your application to be assessed. Below are some common reasons for application processing delays.

Applying too late

See the information on when to submit your application, but remember that you don't have to wait until you are accepted into your course before you apply for advanced standing.

Therefore you should not wait until you receive an offer of a place in a course from QTAC or QUT.

Documentation

Omitting necessary documentation, or submitting documentation that is not properly certified, is a major cause of delay in processing applications for advanced standing.

If you submit a form without the required documentation, it will be returned without being processed.

Incorrect or incomplete application forms

Incomplete applications will be returned to you unprocessed.

You must complete Sections 1 through 6 .

In Section 4 you must indicate clearly:

  1. the basis for the application for advanced standing - this means your completed previous qualification, or individual units studied previously, or work experience (attach a detailed relevant curriculum vitae) that you are going to use to get advanced standing at QUT, AND
  2. QUT equivalent units - these are the QUT units that you think match up to your prior study, AND
  3. the precedent ID - if your prior study matches the Advanced Standing Precedent List (ASPL) include the precedent ID number from the list.

Same course

If you are claiming advanced standing on the basis of former QUT studies, it is important to remember that advanced standing cannot be awarded where exemption is sought for units on the basis of units completed within the same course.

For example:

Adam wants advanced standing to be applied to his current course, BS56. On his application, Adam uses units he has already completed in BS56 as the basis for his application. His application is returned to him unprocessed because he used study from BS56 to get advanced standing in BS56.
